Dale Carnegie for Geeks…

Published by at 4:46 pm under Devexpress,Personal

On Friday thanks to my new job at Devexpress I was exposed to Day 1 of the “Strictly Business: Dale Carnegie Immersion Seminar” and while not with the same impact that getting exposed to GTD had (thanks heathervescent) on me, I have to say Wow! As I begin to internalize more of this content, I see how it will improve me as a human being in general as well as make me much more productive. I will have day 2 and 3 of the training over the next two Fridays and I’m really looking forward to it.

I intend to read “How to Win Friends & Influence People” & “How to Stop Worrying & Start Living” in the meantime, while at the same time re-committing to my GTD practices to help fully adhere all that I’m learning from this seminar.

Ok so why does a geek care? I think one of the biggest challenge we geeks face is with the translation from geek language/thought/ pattern to everyone else (i.e. my mother-in-law). I, like many geeks, have a major case of ADHD, so I look for anything that can help me keep on task and better communicate in general. I think what I’ve learned today will really help with that communication. It all starts with what comes out of  good GTD implementation… which is a clear vision of what you want and where you want to go in life and work. That says it all.

I will report back as to how the rest of the training is going. Changing and growing is always good. …and, I can see me coming up with a new Code Camp presentation from this experience.
