I recently did a one day talk on the topic of what’s new in Visual Studio 2005 covering .NET framework, ADO.NET and Winform changes. I did not cover ASP.NET as that was getting covered the next day for the same audience. I have gotten some requests for the slide deck I used so I wanted to post it where anyone could get it. This is not the exact deck I used as that deck was in a VPC that I did not save but this is close.

Are you interested in what Microsoft is doing next with it’s web tools and platform? Better yet do you want to have input to what it dose? Then come to a new conference that is happening on March 20-22, 2006 At The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, Las Vegas, NV.
There is quit a bit of buzz around Mix and the looks quite interesting content.

Let me know if you are going!

If you are like me you get asked a lot by family about computer problems and despite what you suggest they still keep loading crap on there system and run as administrator. Well Microsoft has recently opened a site with some tools that can help, check out Windows Live Safety Center there you will find some tools that will let even family do some good maintenance on there systems. I hope this helps reduce the number or hours you spend in-front of you mother-in-law’s computer .

I have setup a new hosting account with webhost4life turns out ehostimgbiz who I have happily hosted with for years has gone out if business but they were just a reseller for webhost4life so while my account will not move this site may see some temporally hick ups.

webhost4life has the same deal that ehostingbiz did in that if people sign up using my referral ID then I will get some credit that I can use to pay for my site so if you need a hoster and webhost4life looks like a good deal this link LINK will sign you up while giving me credit if not use this link LINK and you can sign up with no one getting credit.

I get a lot of questions of what is included in what versions of Visual Studio, in a email recently some one pointed out that on MSDN there is this list: Product Feature Comparisons. While I am sure some will not what they are interesting in on this list but it’s a good place to start.

Have fun and I hope you all had great Christmas!

I was talking with a customer last week about ColdFusion & ASP.NET and they contended that ColdFusion was just like ASP.NET and while in 1.1 that was somewhat true as far as the front end development goes but once you look you miss a lot if the things that make .NET development so nice in that you can separate code in to layers (UI, Biz & Dal) and now with ASP.NET 2.0 and the provider model flexibility, Master Pages, Web Parts and so much more I don't think the argument can be made now.

For some back ground on ColdFusion & ASP.NET check out the MSDN article Migrating from ColdFusion to ASP.NET is has an interesting comparison of features.
