Xbox

OK I know this has taken way too long but I finally can now give Robert his XBox. Robert did you give up hope? If you don’t know what I am jabbering about at the Visual Studio Launch in Anaheim last November there was a special Southern California Users Group meeting after the launch event where we raffled a XBox 360. I said it that time that I did not have one and that I could not promise when I would get one but yesterday in one of my spot checks at one of the local stores to my disbelieving hears I got YES we have some. It turned out only to be one (I would have bought as many as I could) but at this time I only owe one anyway. So Robert congratulations and I am sorry it took so long, my wife started to question my sanity with all the checking I did so I am glad to have this over!

I don’t think I will be giving away any more XBoxs for a while…

I am trying to see if there is any interest in doing a special Developer Security event in San Diego… Now I know what developers say “security is boring and my code is not vulnerable” (come on you know you think it). I want to know what would motivate you to come out for such an event. I would love to have people stand-up and tell some war stories about security, I would giveaway some good books and I hope have a lavish dinner… so would you come?

I am currently looking at doing it May 1st.

WOW I have no clue how this passed me by but for IE7 Beta there is a Developer Toolbar that can be down loaded and shows you a lot of way cool details about your current page. If you are doing any web dev you need this toolbar!

Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar (EDIT: Thanks to Scott Hodson for pointing out I had the wrong link!)

I got to participate in the 2006 MVP North American Engagement Tour in Microsoft's San Diego office. As a result I am going making a new feed category for MVPs so they can subscribe only to content that I think they will be interested in. The propose for this is so I can hopefully start working with Southern California MVPs to get them engaged in the local community as well as the excellent work they do online.

Don’t know what a MVP is? Check out the MVP site on Microsoft.com http://mvp.support.microsoft.com

Yep BarCamp Los Angeles is over and all I can say is wow! This was great, why was it great? The people and the people and the people… you get it the people that put on this event took a great idea and executed it in LA extremely well and timed it perfectly. The timing is\was just before the O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference in San Diego so there were more people in town for BarCamp from out of town then there would have been normally.

It was quite surprising how the event shaped up, there was far less coding content then I expected so I never offered to show ATLAS but I was asked to demo Office 12 so I did sign-up for 15 minute slot but alas no one showed up to see it which was good with me as though I used Office all the time I have never demoed it so it would have not been a good experience for me.

I hope the full list of sessions get posted so I can see how much I missed but I did get many interesting topics. One of them looks to me a life changing topic… Panel presentation with Mistress Chi Chi (AKA Carmen De Jesus) did a great topic on GTD (Getting Things Done). The concepts in GTD I thing could be a great way for me to conduct my life. I will try to document how my experience with GTD go.

I hope to get the majority of people who were at Barcamp LA down to CodeCamp San Diego in June.

OK so this was quite a random post about my experience at BarCamp but my mind is still just swimming with the experience.
